Queerlesque is the space where burlesque and cabaret-style performance art meet the wild and vibrant Queer community. Queerlesque shows are fabulous spectacles of awesomeness created by, for and about the queer community, and aim to provide a safe and supportive stage for performers of all gender identities, sexual orientations, expressions, and styles.
The Academy of Queerlesque is designed to be a space to nurture Queer performers of all sorts. We offer mentorship and education for performers interested in drag (kings, queens, and draglesque), burlesque and queerlesque, writing and performing erotica, emceeing, dance and movement, costume design, stage makeup, and much more. We are suitable for all levels of performer experience – whether you’re brand spankin’ new, or you’ve been in the spotlight for a while. Joining the Academy will offer you an incredibly fun way to sharpen your talents and develop new skills. Our instructors represent some of the most talented and well-known performers in the DFW area who have graciously offered their time and talents to help nurture Queer performance artists.
The Academy is run by and for the Queer community. We define Queer as a personal identity that can range anywhere on the LGBTQIA* spectrum. Queer is a space where we can see past labels and checkboxes to celebrate gender and sexual fluidity, and share with others our self-defined identity. We don’t want to forget our straight allies, though, who are such an important part of our communities and our movement. We welcome everyone who wants to celebrate and connect with the Queer community.
Currently, the Academy offers mentorship and education on a person-by-person basis. If you’re interested in performing, or are unsure what kinds of resources are available to you, just let us know and we will hook you up with a mentor. Instructors and mentors in the Academy are active, experienced performers who are affiliated with a variety of performance art communities. Whatever you’re looking for, we can help you find it!
